Just as the nation was moving on from the wink of Priya Varrier, we have got a strong contender in our very own House of People. As much as the discussion after the 12 hour long debate should have been about contemplating the accusations on the present government, the personal touch of Mr. Gandhi at the end of his speech diverted the course of discussion.

So what exactly is No Confidence Motion?
The Indian constitution does not mention "No confidence Motion". However as per the rules of Lok Sabha, a member of the house can give a written notice. The motion is admitted if 50 members support it. In the course of the debate, if the motion is passed the government has to submit its resignation.
Responsible government is the main feature of Parliamentary democracy. The motion in itself give essence to the principle of executives being responsible to the legislature in letter & spirit.

What did the opposition talk about?
Debate & discussion is heart & soul of any democracy. While with each passing year the number of days our parliament assemble is going down, admission of No Confidence motion in the rule of a majority party is exemplary in itself.
Rahul Gandhi being the leader of opposition in short gave a summary of the course of NDA government since 2014. Be it the direct reference to Political-business nexus or highlighting the state of vulnerable groups in our country, Mr. Gandhi made sure to not miss even a single chord.

A sorry state of affairs?
The hour long speech of opposition leader depict our country as if it is in shambles. Blaming the cabinet ministers of corruption & throwing in names of President of another country so casually is nothing more than giving the media some catchy headlines. We must not forget that it were mere accusations only which gave fodder to baseless scams like 2G Spectrum. As grave as the accusations might be, some credible facts & figures would have actually helped.
The reference to expenditure on marketing & foreign visits was a valid point. Talking about number of jobs created not being upto the mark & so was the hassle the nation had to face on sudden implementation of GST & Demonetisation. Believing in his speech could really be depressing but what he missed is giving the common man solid proof rather than just something to do charcha about over his evening chai.

The political weapon!
As much as we appreciate the opposition in doing a wonderful job of keeping check on the present government, roping in soldiers and depicting the ideology of government & armed forces in contrast to each other was a blow below the belt. The sanctity of our country has always been about believing in Sepration of Power while maintaining synergy & coordination. Depicting the Doklam action as brainchild of Indian army alone showcase the executives & the defense forces as independent of each other. It should be kept in mind that while checks & balances are important, we must not forget its better to keep some sections out of the political battlefield.

Now what?
The opposition has finally woken up from its slumber, & decided to put a united front. Healthy debates & discussions without the nuisance of flying jutta-chappals is indeed the need of the hour. If only the debate was not given a hindi TV serial twist in its end, the No- Confidence Motion sure did provide us to talk about what kind of government and political parties we actually need. Sure we would have been better off without THE HUG & THE WINK.
